An installment of my old Marvel blog concerning Marvel’s first attempt to brand the company’s output with that name in 1947.
Another quick bit of history that I came across while doing some research. The attached page ran in CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS #60, cover-dated January 1947, and is pretty interesting.
While generally the name of the company was Timely Comics (and that was still what the creators and freelancers referred to it as all the way into the early 1960s), every once in a while Stan and Martin Goodman would take a stab at establishing the Marvel name. This was one of those times.
It’s a lot of attention to give to this new logo, especially in retrospect, with the knowledge that it only lasted a few months and never quite caught on. But it’s interesting to see Stan taking a credit on the ad (with his distinctive signature no less) as well as the breakdown of the titles Timely/Marvel was publishing at this point.
