A post from my old Marvel blog concerning the rediscovery of the opening credits to the 1966 MARVEL SUPER HEROES cartoon series. Since I wrote this, the English version of the opening has resurfaced.
The Marvel Super-Heroes Have Arrived!

Got an interesting piece of Marvel history to share with you that just turned up on YouTube.
When it premiered back in 1966, the Marvel Super Heroes cartoon was the first media adaptation of the then-new Marvel characters, and the beginning of Marvel’s movement into the realm of popular culture. Even today, forty years later, people can still sing bits of the individual theme songs for the five characters involved (Particularly the Captain America and Hulk ones.)
What people haven’t remembered as well, because it’s been lost for so many years, is the opening to the show itself. This opening title sequence got trimmed off the syndication package at some point (Possibly when it went back into circulation in the late ’70s/early ’80s after the success of the Lou Ferrigno Hulk series as The Incredible Hulk And Friends.) One of the stumbling blocks to releasing these shows in some manner of archival DVD edition is the fact that the titles have been lost–until now.
The video at the link was videotaped in South America, where the prints still retained the opening title sequence. It’s in black and white, and the theme song has been translated into Portuguese, but it still gets across the flavor of this initial Marvel foray into animation.

And just so you can sing along in a language of your choice, here are the lyrics in their original English:
Meet a sulky, over-bulky, kinda Hulky super hero
Altruistic and electrically transistored super hero
An exotically neurotic and aquatic super hero
The Marvel Super Heroes have arrived!
Super-powered from their foreheads to their toes
Watch them change their very shape before your nose
See a cane-striking super hero change to Viking super hero
A humdingin’, real swingin’, shield-flingin’ super hero
They’re the latest, they’re the greatest, ultimatest super heroes
The Marvel Super Heroes have arrived!
More later.
