If you can put aside the flagrant racism sprawled all over this Alex Schomburg CAPTAIN AMERICA cover, it’s another excellent example of the sort of piece that he routinely generated during the golden age of comics. The sheer number of actions and details is staggering, in that none of them repeat. Cap both machine guns and slams while himself the target of an enemy machine gun and a thrown knife. It’s about as violent a Captain America cover image as you’re going to find–typically, Cap left it to Bucky to do the shooting, stabbing and flame-throwing.
The blurb indicating that there’s also a Human Torch story in this issue seems like an afterthought, and gets lost and overwhelmed by the controlled chaos that’s going on everywhere else.
