I’m a total sucker for analytical statistics, and so I always look forward a little bit to this point in the publication year, where I take stock over all of the assorted bits of content that I’ve posted not only across the previous 365 days but all the way back to the beginning of this blog in all its forms, and work out what the most popular bits have been. This inevitably influences me as to what new stuff I come up with to write about in the new year. And it provides a handy index for newcomers to this space as to the most popular and well-read pieces that we’ve put up. So here’s the tale-of-the-tape for 2021.
As is usual, we’re going to begin with the Top 10 posts of All Time, then focus down into whatever other posts made the Top 10 list of entries for just this year, and then we’ll close out with the most read posts in all of the categories that weren’t already covered in some fashion. So here we go.
Taking the top spot, the best-read piece on this site overall was this analysis of the origins of Spider-Man:
This Jack Kirby piece was #2:
Third was last year’s most read piece on the mysteries surrounding AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #8:
This look at the original artwork to the first Spider-man story in AMAZING FANTASY #15 came fourth.
Fifth is this popular piece on the alterations made to the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga in X-MEN:
Number six was this rundown of the Top 5 Unofficial Marvel/DC Crossovers:
Next is this countdown of 5 Mean Caricatures of Comic Book Creators by their peers:
This analysis of the evolving working relationship between Stan Lee and Jack Kirby was eighth:
This piece on how AMAZING ADULT FANTASY fits into the mythology of the development of early Marvel was ninth.
And the first half of our analysis of the narrative techniques used by Jack Kirby in his stories was tenth:
While those pieces have proven the most popular overall, only two of them were posted in 2021, so here are the eight pieces from this year that were the most read after them:
And from there, let’s fill out the list with the most popular entry in each of the remaining categories:
As always, I want to thank everybody who has made it a point to stop by and check in to see what I might be rambling about on any particular day. In particular, thanks to all of those who have left a comment, especially those who have provided corrections or additional information. We’ll keep on keepin’ on as 2021 gives way to 2022!
