Brand Echh – Introduction

Marvel Bullpen Bulletins item – Cover Date March 1966

It has to be said that I love bad comics of a certain type. Not lousy comics per se, but ones that are just a little bit clueless, that are trying to hop on board a given trend, or that are just so weird that they’re entertaining on their own in a dada-esque fashion.

In particular, the efforts of different publishers to try to tap into the essence of what Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and the rest of the Marvel crew were doing in the 1960s I often find very entertaining. (Stan and company, however, apparently weren’t so amused by it, as the above Bullpen Bulletins item illustrates.)

So under the Brand Echh banner, I’m going to be posting some of my favorites in this genre. But please be aware–just because I post something under the Brand Echh label doesn’t mean I don’t like it, or that I’m unaware of its merits. This will be more just a place to share some of the oddball entrants in the world of comics that I can’t quite fit anywhere else.
