Great Covers – DETECTIVE COMICS #408

A graphic DETECTIVE COMICS cover by Neal Adams, who here uses a succession of inset panels to build up the drama and horror of Robin disintegrating before Batman’s eyes to an emotional intensity. The lettering, too, is nicely done her.

Great Covers – TEEN TITANS #22

A super-dramatic Nick Cardy TEEN TITANS cover, with excellent use of color. That magenta dimension just looks dangerous and weird and horrifying, and the desperate body language of the three male Titans sells the drama.

Great Covers – SUPERMAN #53

Another classic image, the 10th anniversary issue of SUPERMAN gave us this cover by Wayne Boring that would go on to adorn T-Shirts and lunchboxes and hardcover books. The yellow of the outer circle is immediately eye-catching, but doesn’t overwhelm the central figure of the Man of Steel.

Another brilliant Jack Adler greytone cover, this time executed over the precision artwork of Russ Heath for this G.I. COMBAT cover. The coloring is lovely–I think the only misstep is the pink logo.
