I'm not entirely certain why I bought this issue of CHAMPIONS so early into my time exploring the Marvel books. If I had to take a guess, it's that i recognized Angel and Iceman on the cover from X-MEN #1 in SON OF ORIGINS OF MARVEL COMICS. having read the current issue of X-MEN, I … Continue reading BHOC: CHAMPIONS #17
EPISODE #44 "Never before has the Comet Empire been forced to change its course! If we had avoided the confrontation with Trelaina, it never would have happened! An Empire is built on victories, not defeats! Trelaina has taught me a valuable lesson, never again will I listen to anyone whose advice runs counter to my … Continue reading In Our Next STAR BLAZERS Adventure – Episode 44
This wound up being the last issue of ALL-STAR COMICS from this original run that i was able to find, which is a shame, as i was a great fan of the series. But during this period, DC's distribution seemed to start having difficulty, at least in my area, and finding the books featuring the … Continue reading BHOC: ALL-STAR COMICS #70
My brother Ken was still buying and reading the occasional war comic, and so here's another one that eventually came over to me. That's a pretty dramatic Joe Kubert cover on it--Kubert was the undisputed king of DC's war comics, having drawn so many of them over the years, and edited them as well. His … Continue reading BHOC: SGT ROCK #312
It's been bettered but never equaled, the granddaddy of all inter-company crossovers. At a time when a comic book featuring Superman and rival Spider-Man sharing the same pages was a positively shocking idea, this enormous tabloid spent its 100 pages synthesizing the narrative styles of both the DC and Marvel house approaches into a single … Continue reading 5BC: Five Best Marvel/DC Crossovers
EPISODE 43 "Trelaina, people want to be governed, they don't want to have to make decisions, to use their judgment, it's too difficult, too demanding. They want things done for them, not by them. And if the universe is to run efficiently, who will do it?" - Prince Zordar From this point on throughout the … Continue reading In Our Next STAR BLAZERS Adventure – Episode 43
I'm pretty certain that I bought this issue of SUPERMAN at the same time as the MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS and possibly the MARVEL TRIPLE ACTION. Like the MGC issue, I can recall biking back to my house with it. Having spent a week during the summer working out that new comics were released on Thursdays … Continue reading BHOC: SUPERMAN #319
Another instant masterwork from the typewriter of Alan Brennert, this issue of BRAVE AND THE BOLD brings the story of the original Batman of the 1930s and 40s (i.e. the Earth-2 model) to a satisfying and emotional conclusion, as he finds his soulmate in Selina Kyle as the two battle the Scarecrow. As usual, Brennert … Continue reading 5BC: The Five Best Comic Books of 1983
Another reprint title, also purchased at my local 7-11. I can remember coming home with it, stopping off at a friend's house along the way. As MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS reprinted classic Fantastic Four stories, it was a no-brainer for me to pick up; at this moment, FANTASTIC FOUR was probably my favorite comic book, a … Continue reading BHOC: MARVEL’S GREATEST COMICS #75
EPISODE 42 "Whoa...Telezart...Telezart...I can't bear to think of what will happen to you...Trelaina!" - Mark Venture This was another episode that emphasized the human and emotional drama over space battles and fisticuffs. While these episodes may have seemed slow to some of the young viewers, they were really the essential difference between STAR BLAZERS and … Continue reading In Our Next STAR BLAZERS Adventure – Episode 42
