Great Covers – BATMAN #372

This Ed Hannigan symbolic BATMAN cover is so ridiculous that it’s excellent! It feels very much in the style of Joe Kubert’s assorted war covers, but isn’t the kind of thing that was often seen on the super hero books. And the fact that Death is literally counting Batman out brings the whole thing to a boil. That two-tone yellow background is like a spotlight, and every figure leaps off of it like they were jet-propelled.

  1. i respect Ed Hannigan. I liked some of his Spidey work. He designed many great covers

But I can’t get past the poorly drawn boxer on the left. Not Ed’s best. If you can’t get the figure’s interior details correct, then don’t put ’em in.

Like Steve Epting & some others, Hannigan often short changed his figures limbs, especially the arms, in relation to the rest of the figure.
